The Irish Volunteers in the Great Battle

Transcription of article appearing in the Charleston Daily Courier, July 9, 1862, reprinting a letter from Sgt. Alexander V. O'Donnell of the South Carolina Irish Volunteers to his brother. The letter recounts the Battle of Gaines's Mill (June 27; also First Cold Harbor or Battle of Chickahominy River), part of the Seven Days Battles of the Peninsula Campaign.
