Portrait of Henry Timrod

Oil painting on canvas; This portrait was commissioned by William A. Courtenay in the late 1890s, and was presented to the library in 1905 when it was renamed the Timrod Library in honor of the poet. The library kept the name until 1926 when Columbia took full financial responsibility for the institution and named it the Columbia Public Library.
