Following the total destruction of his cabinetmaking shop and store during the burning of Columbia on February 17-18, 1865, Milo H. Berry reestablished himself as one of the city’s most successful cabinetmakers. Many South Carolinians catch their own shrimp, usually by pulling a seine or by casting a circular net (which takes training as well as strength).
